BEGGAR

You can't live in this city
Without obvious means of support:
The police enforce the law.

Some are soldiers
Who shed their blood for their country

(This goes in quotes)
Others are sly businessmen
Who cut a gram
Or two or three from a kilo of plums.
And the others there are priests
Who walk around with a book in their hands.

Each one of them knows his business.
And what do you think mine is?

Singing
looking in the closed windows

To see if someone will open them
And
toss
me
down
a
coin.
